We are a setup with Retina specialists - Dr Nitin S Shetty a vitreo retinal surgeon and Dr Subashini a medical retina specialist, Optometrist - Anish Rajan, administrative staff - Mrs Pushpa and our housekeeping staff - Komala.
Retina Clinic is essentially an outpatient setup, geared for a full eye examination and investigations. Different procedures carried out include fundus photography, fluorescein and ICG angiography, B-scan ultrasound, OCT, Retinal lasers and Intravitreal Injections.
The surgical treatment is carried out at a dedicated state-of-art Ophthalmology facility setup at Manipal Hospital, Old Airport Road, Bangalore. Most surgeries are day care procedures and do not require overnight stay in the hospital. Surgical care needs a good physician and anaesthetist back up - hence the setting of the Ophthalmology operation facility in Bangalore’s leading multi speciality hospital provides a lot of safety and benefits.
Dr Nitin S Shetty is a Vitreo Retinal Surgeon, Medical Retina and Uveitis specialist trained at Sankara Nethralaya, Medical Research Foundation, Chennai. He completed his initial medical education - MBBS - at Byramjee Jeejeebhoy Medical College, Pune and obtained a distinction in Ophthalmology. He completed his post graduation in Ophthalmology -MS - at the same institute - Sassoon General Hospital and BJ Medical College, Pune. Thereafter he joined Sankara Nethralaya, Chennai for his fellowship on Vitreo Retina - he completed this and was chosen for the VT Joshi award given to the best outgoing vitreo retina fellow. He was subsequently absorbed at the same institute and continued at Sankara Nethralaya for 10 years working as a Vitreo Retina Consultant and Uveitis specialist. Thereafter he shifted to Bangalore and joined the Ophthalmology department at Manipal Hospital Bangalore in 2003. He continues to be attached there and currently heads the department and the Retina services at Manipal Hospital, Old airport Road, Bangalore. He has done a small stint as the Visiting scholar at the the Chinese University of Hong Kong for a period of 8 months. He has several scientific publications to his credit and has written chapters in textbook and also authored a textbook on Fluorescein Angiography. His special interests include medical retina - especially disease affecting the macula. He is member of several national and international professional bodies which include Vitreo Retina Society of India, All India Ophthalmology Society, American Academy of Ophthalmology, Uveitis Society of India, iROP Society, Karnataka Ophthalmology Society, Bangalore Ophthalmology Society.
