Video consultation would be more effective in the following cases:

 

Follow up cases to discuss further regarding the diagnosis, investigations and treatment options

 

If you have been examined elsewhere and wish to have a second opinion

 

Patients with eye allergies, external infections can have an initial video consultations - follow up checks would be needed if there is no response to the treatment

 

It is not possible to examine the retina through a video consultation - hence this may not be an effective way of check up for first retina / eye consultation

Video consultation for eye and retinal problems has limitations as it is not possible to examine the eye and retinal details. It is very likely that a definite diagnosis may not be reached during a video consultation. The discussion and advice is likely to be more general. You may be advised to undergo further in-clinic testing.
